Robin Hart’s 1980s Photos
We were delighted to receive an email from Robin Hart who was a student at the Gilberd between 1979 and 1985. Robin has sent in quite a few photos from his time at the school. Two of his photos were published earlier this week here and the rest are featured below. I’ll leave it to Robin to set these photos in context for everyone:
I have extremely fond memories of the Gilberd, even though I managed to make a royal mess of my education there (no fault of the teachers, needless to say!). I was in 1C with Mr Langton (who frightened the life out of me) and I have fond memories of Mrs Rees (who seemed to frequently wear multicoloured chalk on her face during maths lessons), Mrs Went, Mr Delves and Mr Powell-Davies, who never taught me but was always an impressive figure. I have many other memories of faces and names, some of which match but I fear aging is increasingly dissociating the two.
Going through an old shoe box of photos, as one does, I found the attached collection that I thought might be of interest. I would welcome any details (especially names) that visitors to this website might recall.
I have occasional contact with Nick Farrow through LinkedIn, and know Liz Holt (now McBride I believe) moved to the North of the UK. Ollie Cheesman (no “e” in the middle, I recall him telling me) was always super bright and Brian Lloyd who I believe became a minister. Some other names I remember are Mrs Grew and her husband (a GP from memory?), Mr Kinchin (Ian?), “Flossie” (real name escapes me), Dale Rowe and Nick Page. However, further details would be wonderful.
There are some pictures of “round the table” table tennis we used to play in the small hall, and pictures of the Danbury camp where I was a 5th form helper for, I think, the first year incoming students.
It would be wonderful to hear from anyone in my year. I can be contacted by email at the address below and I have a Facebook page which anyone is also more than welcome to check out:
