Annual Prize Giving Days 1955-1961

I am extremely grateful to Stephen Willoughby for sharing his copy of the 1965 'Presentation of Prizes' programme, which we included in a series of articles he wrote about his time at the school. You can find that programme at the end of this article.

On my recent visit to the Gilberd archives I was hopeful that we might be able to turn up further information about these events. Fortunately the school had kept programmes and press clippings from 1955-1961. The press clippings include some wonderful photos that capture students attending the ceremonies and they also provide a glimpse of the interior of the Playhouse at the time. Some of the programmes were stuck down in a scrapbook so it was only possible to photograph three of the four sides - my apologies to anyone who received prizes in those years but had the misfortune to be listed on page 4! You can view or download copies of all of the 1955-1961 programmes HERE.
