One Hundred Years of History

To raise awareness about the launch of our film 'The Gilberd North Hill - A Virtual Tour with Eddie Ross' the Colchester Gazette have published an article about our endeavour which has appeared online today. Our thanks to Andrea Collitt for covering this - you can read Andrea's article here.

Whilst we were shooting the film at the Sixth Form College, we also wanted to match four photos that had been taken on the site in the 1920s and compare them with how the same locations looked a hundred years later. The original photos were taken for the Girls County High School who were based in the building at the time.

We were able to match all the images up fairly well with the only tricky shot being the Art Room, where a new wall dividing the room in two made it impossible to match the shot exactly. We did our best though and you can certainly still see that it is exactly the same location. It's amazing really how recognisable everything still is.

The photos were first published in the print edition of the Gazette on Monday 18th October and we have reproduced them all below.

This 1920 photo from the Gymnasium is interesting. It looks as though the windows at eye level have been covered up, presumably to prevent anyone in the corridor from seeing the students exercise. And for some reason there are five students just hanging off the bars in the left hand corner!
