Schools Out For Summer...in 1983

As hundreds of thousands of pupils finish their schooling this summer, this article looks back almost forty years at Gilberd fifth formers on their last day in May 1983. These photos were taken by Katy Oxton whose images of the old Gilberd and the Cock and Pye were recently published in the Gazette and on this website.

It's really great to see some photos of Pete Statham amongst this collection - I remember him as a good teacher and a kind man.

Despite the passage of time Katy and some of her school friends have been able to put names to many of the faces in the photos. Understandably, there are a few gaps in their collective memory.
