Download the 1968 and 1969 issues of ‘Image’

I’m very pleased to be able to share with everyone today the 1968 and 1969 issues of ‘Image’ magazine. ‘Image’ was the product of a joint initiative between the English and Art Departments at the school. The content was selected by a magazine committee made up of students and teachers, including Mr Jones and Mr Butcher.

I feel sure most people will agree that ‘Image’ is an eye catching magazine which showcases the creative talents of students at the school. The co-operation between the two departments is visible throughout, with appropriate images complimenting the various subjects that have been written about. (You can see some excellent examples of this below.)

You can download these magazines here. In addition to the content above you will also find:

  • More original artwork by Richard Stone and an account of his visit to meet the British portrait painter Sir Gerald Kelly.
  • Details of how the Cock and Pye Society came to be.
  • Two opposing viewpoints about the war in Vietnam.
  • An eclectic selection of artwork, poetry and creative writing from students throughout the school.
My thanks to Stephen Willoughby and Mike Springett who each provided one of the magazines. Do you know if there were anymore published? Do you have an unseen copy languishing in your attic or cellar? Do you have any other Gilberd related material that you think other past pupils might enjoy seeing again? If so, please get in touch at eddiesphotos@icloud.com and we will share it with visitors to the site.
